General Information

The Gastric Band is a very straightforward way of assisting with weight loss. It may be the procedure of choice for those not wishing to undergo more invasive procedures such as gastric bypass and is relatively easy to manage.

The patient should remember that like any surgical procedure there are things they must expect post-operatively. The port access sites may be sore for up to 10 days after surgery, although with keyhole surgery, there is minimal scarring. What small marks there are should fade gradually. There should be little or no vomiting as the Gastric Band is designed to restrict eating, not prevent it. The patient should remember to take a multi-vitamin each day as they will be eating less and losing weight.

Overall, the Gastric Band becomes the patients friend and facilitates weight-loss to a level previously unimaginable by some patients.
